Dr. Shannon M. Austin is a board-certified pediatrician and joined Southwest Children’s Center in 2009. Dr. Austin was born and raised in Houston, TX. She moved to San Antonio to attend Trinity University for undergraduate school and continued to attend both medical school and residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. San Antonio has become home to Dr. Austin, her husband Scott, and two sons Chase and Grayson. Dr. Austin currently serves on the Advisory Council of Christian Medical and Dental Association, San Antonio Chapter. In her free time, Dr. Austin enjoys serving in her church and community, entertaining, baking, traveling, and spending time on the sidelines cheering her boys on in various sports. Dr. Austin chose her career in pediatrics out of a passion for becoming part of her patients’ family, coming along side parents as they navigate the many aspects of caring for and raising children, supporting them with professional guidance as well as advice gleaned from her own journey through parenthood. She is a strong advocate for her patients’ mental and physical health, with special interests in newborn and breastfeeding support, nutrition and exercise, and discipline and healthy boundaries.
